This is a story. About how sometimes the Universe gives us miracles back.
So. Twenty-five years ago, in Israel, I sold an apartment to a couple. They asked for a discount of five thousand dollars. I was after surgery. In the middle of divorce — my ex-husband filed while I was still in hospital. Two weeks before, I lost my job.

We closed the deal. Then the woman secretly sent me back five thousand in the evening. She said she couldn’t do it any other way, her husband just loved to bargain. I needed the money badly. I cried. These money, they literally saved my life. And I promised myself: I will help someone too, when I can. Then I moved to another country. And I forgot.

Yesterday, I sat in a café. Next to me, in the corner, a girl, maybe nineteen. She was staring at nothing for long. Then opened her phone. Did something. Suddenly she cried. Strange way — no blinking, only tears. They just dripped into the cup. I felt shy to come. Then she put her hands on the table, leaned, and started sobbing. Very quiet.

I couldn’t sit anymore. I went to her. Asked if I can help. She lifted her head. Said: nothing. Then asked me only to sit close, hold her hand.

We sat like this half an hour. She cried. Then told me. She was pregnant. Her boyfriend threw her out. She had a miscarriage. No place to go. No money for university. Without pay, they would throw her out. And her mom — in hospital for surgery. No money from home.

I didn’t know what to do. I just offered her to stay with me. Don’t know what I was thinking. She said no. But she took my number. That same night she called. Came with one backpack. Looked like a street kitten.

For some days she only ate, slept. Then she went out. Came back and told me she found a job — waitress, in café across my house. Asked to stay few months. Until she saves for tuition and rent. She looked lighter already. She told me about her mom. That today was the surgery. Showed me photo. You know who it was? The same woman. Who gave me back five thousand.

I was shocked. Said nothing. Later I found her university bank details. Paid her tuition (а semester). A bit more than 1800. How this happened? In another country, I meet the daughter of the woman who once saved me. And I get chance to save her. Is this not a miracle?

One month later she had enough money to rent out a small flat and she moved out. We are still friends

I write this story to your book not by accident. I want people to read it. On paper. To inspire. Not disappear in internet. This story is about us. About humanity. About this incredible Universe we live in.
